- Enjoy exclusive access to bots like OpenAI’s o1-preview, Runway’s Gen-3 Alpha Turbo, and many more.
- Send far more messages than free users.
- Generate images, video, and audio with state-of-the-art bots from Runway, Pika, ElevenLabs, Ideogram, Black Forest Labs, and more.
- Unlock each bot’s maximum input size and chat history - up to 2M tokens (equivalent to 1,400,000 words).

Why can't I upgrade my subscription?
If you are already a subscriber, there are two primary reasons you can’t upgrade.
First, you can only upgrade if a larger or longer subscription plan exists on your platform. Poe has subscription options in the Apple store, Google Play store, and Poe website. The most diverse subscription options are on Poe’s website.
Second, you can only upgrade on the platform where you bought your active subscription. If you subscribed on the iOS or Android app, your subscription is managed through either Apple or Google only. If you subscribed on Poe’s website, you can only manage your subscription on the Poe website. To upgrade on a different platform than where you purchased your current subscription, you'll need to cancel your current subscription where you purchased it (e.g. in Poe’s phone App) and resubscribe on a new platform (e.g. Poe’s website).
To upgrade on the same platform:
- Open ‘Settings’ in Poe.
- In the ‘Subscription’ section, click the “Upgrade” button.
- If you do not see an “Upgrade” button:
- If it says you are subscribed on a different platform, go to that platform and repeat these steps
- Otherwise, you are on the right platform but no further upgrades are available on this platform
- If you do not see an “Upgrade” button:
- Follow the prompts to complete your upgrade.
To upgrade on a different platform:
- Cancel your current subscription
- Open ‘Settings’ in Poe.
- Click on ‘Manage your subscription’. Keep clicking cancel and follow the prompts until you see confirmation that the subscription is cancelled.
- If you do not see the ‘Manage your subscription’ option, it will say what platform you need to go to. Go there and repeat these steps.
- Return to ‘Settings’ and confirm that the ‘Subscription’ section says your subscription is cancelled and that benefits will terminate at the end of this billing cycle.
- Re-subscribe on the platform of your choice
- Open ‘Settings’ in the Poe website, Poe iOS app, or Poe Android app.
- Click “Subscribe to Poe”
- Follow the prompts until you see confirmation that you have subscribed.
- Return to ‘Settings’ and confirm that the ‘Subscription’ section says the subscription you just purchased.
- Enjoy your upgraded subscription
- We want your upgrades to be smooth. If you upgrade on the Poe.com website after canceling on an App but before your subscription benefits expire, we will automatically calculate and refund remaining points. Subscriptions already refunded by Apple or Google do not count as remaining.
During all of this, rest assured you will maintain subscription access until the end of your current billing period, even after cancellation. Also, your account data, including chat history and settings, will remain intact.
How does Poe compare to paying for alternatives?
Poe offers significant savings compared to individually subscribing to AI providers or using their APIs.
Individual Subscriptions vs Poe
Every major AI company (i.e. OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, etc.) offers a $20/month subscription that only covers their own models. These providers enforce usage limitations either per hour(s), per day, or at undisclosed rates.
Poe offers access to all of these models and more starting at $9.99/month. You get flexible daily or monthly compute points to use across different models. If you need more points, simply upgrade.
Direct API Costs vs Poe
Major AI companies offer APIs to directly access their models, charging based on how many tokens are processed. You will save on Poe compared to equivalent direct API usage, given current rates for a standard message:
Model | Provider | Direct API rates | Standard messages via direct API for $20 | Poe standard message points cost | Standard messages on Poe for a $20 subscription (1M points) | Extra messages on Poe |
GPT-4o | OpenAI |
$2.50 / 1M input tokens $10.00 / 1M output tokens |
~2,298 messages | 291 points | ~3,436 messages | Up to 49.52% more msgs |
ChatGPT-4o-Latest | OpenAI |
$5.00 / 1M input tokens $15.00 / 1M output tokens |
~1,319 messages | 507 points | ~1,972 messages | Up to 49.41% more msgs |
Claude 3.5 Sonnet | Anthropic | $3.00 / 1M input tokens $15.00 / 1M output tokens | ~1,945 messages | 344 points | ~2,906 messages | Up to 49.51% more msgs |
Data sourced on 12/19/2024. API rates sourced from OpenAI and Anthropic. Assumes a standard message of 1,000 characters user input and the resulting average output, which varies in number of tokens by model and provider: 214 input tokens and 817 output tokens for GPT-4o, 214 input tokens and 940 output tokens for ChatGPT-4o-Latest, and 228 input tokens and 640 output tokens for Claude-3.5-Sonnet. Number of standard messages on Poe are calculated based on the rates for a Poe subscriber receiving 1 million points/month for $19.99/month.
To optimize your compute points usage:
- Clear context or start a new chat when switching topics
- Write short prompts that are specific about the desired content and length of the response
- Choose the appropriate model for your needs
- Monitor your compute point usage through the message info feature
